In liquid‑state lithium‑ion batteries, the separator and electrolyte are positioned between the positive and negative electrodes. The separator permits only lithium ions (Li⁺) to shuttle back and forth while blocking the passage of electrons (e⁻), thereby providing electrical insulation between the electrodes. In solid‑state lithium‑ion batteries, the separator and electrolyte are replaced by a polymer electrolyte membrane; this polymer may be in a dry state or in a gel state, with most current designs employing a polymer gel electrolyte membrane.
During charging and discharging, lithium ions move in opposite directions. As they migrate, they react with the electrolyte, leading to a gradual depletion of lithium ions and a decline in battery performance.
Xinzhoubang’s battery chemicals fall into three main categories: electrolytes for secondary lithium‑ion batteries, electrolytes for primary lithium batteries, and electrolytes for supercapacitors. As one of the four key materials in a lithium battery—alongside the cathode, anode, and separator—the lithium‑ion battery electrolyte consists of a solvent, a lithium‑salt solute, and various additives. Often referred to as the “lifeblood” of the battery, it plays a critical role in transporting lithium ions and is essential for enabling lithium‑ion batteries to achieve high voltage, high specific energy, and other performance advantages.
As a carrier for lithium-ion transport, the electrolyte is one of the four essential components of a lithium battery. The four key materials of a lithium battery are the cathode material, the anode material, the electrolyte, and the separator. Among these, the electrolyte serves as the medium that facilitates the movement of lithium ions between the cathode and the anode, making it one of the critical factors influencing the performance of lithium-ion batteries.
The function of lithium‑battery electrolyte is to facilitate ion transport between the positive and negative electrodes, serving as the medium for charging and discharging—much like blood in the human body. Ensuring that the electrolyte thoroughly and uniformly wets the interior of the battery is a critical challenge. Consequently, the electrolyte‑filling process is of paramount importance, directly impacting battery performance. Electrolyte filling proceeds in two steps: (1) injecting the electrolyte into the cell; and (2) allowing the injected electrolyte to be absorbed by the electrode assembly—a time‑consuming step that significantly drives up the production cost of lithium‑ion batteries.
The electrolyte in lithium-ion batteries plays a crucial role in facilitating the movement of lithium ions. The extent to which the active materials within the battery decompose significantly influences its overall performance. Lithium-ion batteries used in electric vehicles typically employ liquid electrolytes; when the temperature drops, these electrolytes can freeze, making ion transport considerably more difficult. As the rate of lithium-ion migration slows, the battery’s voltage inevitably decreases to some degree. The company’s core business focuses on three major categories of battery chemicals: electrolytes for rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, electrolytes for primary lithium batteries, and electrolytes for supercapacitors. As one of the four key components of a lithium battery—alongside the cathode, anode, and separator—the lithium-ion battery electrolyte consists of a solvent, a lithium salt solute, and various additives. Often referred to as the “lifeblood” of the battery, it is responsible for shuttling lithium ions between the electrodes, thereby ensuring that the battery delivers high voltage, high specific energy, and other advantageous characteristics.
